Hi, I’m Gohar - or Dr Khan!
A little about me: I have been an English teacher for 15 years and believe it is the best job in the world! I have a Masters from Queen’s University, Canada and a PhD from the University of Warwick. I am passionate about helping young people succeed in English and have coached hundreds of students to get the best results possible in their GCSEs. I currently work in an ‘outstanding’ school in South Oxfordshire, where I am also Associate Senior Leader.
I coach for both English Language and Literature and focus on Years 9 to 11. The results of students who have worked with me in past years suggest that private coaching is excellent preparation for the exams. My main aim will be to increase their confidence, strengthen their exam technique and develop their writing, comprehension, and revision skills. Rest assured that this really does pay off!
My Approach
I begin with evaluating the student’s current performance in English Language and Literature. Next, I embed the basics of the subject thoroughly, including the ability to write accurately and extensively. I do this through a range of carefully designed courses to cover all aspects of English. Whatever we may be doing on the day, I always ensure students stay focused on accuracy in spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Essentially, I teach to the exam requirements which involves lots of past paper practice, evaluation, and improvement. While I have some limited 1:1 spaces, my main coaching method is to have a variety of live online courses available for students to book.
The results of students who have worked with me in past years suggest that private coaching is excellent preparation for the exams. It is worth clarifying that students are expected to cover all texts at school where they are likely to study English for a minimum of four hours a week. As you will appreciate, I will not be able to cover course content with them as this is unfeasible in the time we have. My main aim will be to increase their confidence, strengthen their exam technique and develop their writing, comprehension, and revision skills. Rest assured that this really does pay off!
Students will need an A4 notebook, pens, highlighters, and access to a laptop with internet.
Dream it
You really can be incredibly successful in English Language and Literature: it’s just about finding the right person to guide you through it all!
My courses
My courses are all carefully designed to be clear, structured and enjoyable. My aim is to help young people gain confidence and realise they can be successful!
